It's been a while and man has the eReader world gone crazy! It seems like everyone has plans to release their own "kindle killer."

The good news for us is that the more readers there are, the more there are available at used prices. The Kindle DX has been out for a few months so you can expect to see more and more of them being sold on eBay. It seems the voices overseas have finally been heard. Jeff Bezos recently announced that a new version of the Kindle 2 that allows international wireless access will be available soon!

Used Kindle 2 Listings

A new Kindle 2 will run you $299 at Amazon now. Keep this in mind when you're shopping around for a used Kindle 2. Under normal circumstances, you shouldn't pay more than this for a used Kindle unless the seller has bundled some other accessories with it.

Also, an apology is in order, as I noticed over the weekend that a lot of extra items had made it into the Used Kindle 2 section. I've adjusted the web codes and databits to keep this from happening. I'll also watch the listings more closely to help keep things in check.

Update on Kindle DX Auctions

With the recent news that the Kindle DX has sold out yet again, it's probably going to be a while before a steady stream of the used Kindle DX shows up on eBay. In my searching, I've seen many of the Kindle Covers for the DX pop up and many of the "3rd party" varieties that I'd never recommend buying, but only a handful of DX units at a slightly inflated price.

As of this writing, more Kindle DX units are expected to ship in about 4 to 6 weeks. This means that if you're interested in grabbing one, you should go ahead and place your order. The Kindles are shipped on a first come, first served basis, so the sooner you order, the sooner you'll have it in your hands.

The apparent shortage of the Amazon Kindle is nothing new and has been a part of all the version releases. Due to their popularity, many units are pre-ordered months before the release date. Since Amazon fills these orders first, their supply of units runs out quickly. This is why availability seems sporadic for the first few months after a release. With time, the availability of the Kindle DX will be as steady as its previous versions. Further out, truly "used kindle dx" units will begin to trickle through the web. When this happens, we'll add another section to the site so you'll be able to search through them just as easily as the others.

As expected, there are already lots of eBay listing for the recently released Kindle DX. I have a feeling that some of these listings are the result of people gambling on low availability. Since all of these listed Kindle DX units can hardly be called used, we're going to wait a while before adding the Kindle DX to the site.

Right now you should consider buying a new Kindle DX from Amazon, if you're interested. A good deal on the Kindle DX is down the road a bit. If you're worried about availability, just check the main Kindle DX page at Amazon.com. They have done really well with posting release dates and the next date the product is expected to be in stock. Lots of Kindle DX units were shipped on June 10th, and the next batch is expected to go out on the 17th.
